We want to actively invest in each other in order to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). At Metsku we have a variety of ministry teams that offer opportunities to grow in the Lord and serve the body of Christ. Explore our ministries below.

 Meeting each other

We want to create a welcoming atmosphere in Metsku! Our focus is the people and we want everyone to feel seen and welcomed. We welcome at the door, talk with people and make sure that everyone finds what they need. We also take care of practical tasks during the worship service, such as the offering.

Sunday School

Every Sunday is kids’ Sunday too!

Welcome to join us in working and helping the kids grow in their faith! We use a material called “Skatten” but within a certain theme so you have the freedom to work with it in a way that suits you. We are always at least two people who are responsible for each Sunday school class. Besides the gathering of children, we also meet and plan once before the Sunday school class and arrange everything on the morning before the Sunday service. You are warmly welcomed to join us, both you who have previous experience with leading Sunday school and the like and you who still haven’t tried it out. In the gospels we can see how important and precious the kids are in Jesus eyes, let us meet, treat and welcome them in the same way.

Interpretation

 Include everyone

We want everyone in our congregation to feel welcome and included, no matter the nationality. That’s why all our services are interpreted into English.

The interpretation is done simultaneously, this way, people can take part in our services, even if they don’t speak Swedish. Even the Bible passages are read in English by the translator. If you want translation, just take one of the head phones available on the translator’s desk in the back of the church. The translator also assists people if they need instructions on how to use the headphones.

Church coffee

 Warm fellowship

Church coffee is an important part of the weekly worship service when we can fellowship together. We want to make it possible for everyone to stay and have something salty and sweet to eat as you talk and share life with each other.

The coffee team works in pairs of two people together which allows each person to serve about one time a month. The responsibilities are typically divided so that one person handles the shopping and the other bakes something tasty, then you always prepare and clean up after service together. This way it does no become too much work for one person.

“It is a joy to be together and serve in a practical way. People are very thankful and happy to be invited to eat. Moreover, it is a joy to see people remain a while after the service and enjoy each other’s company, fellowship, and encouragement together around the coffee table.”

Prayer

 Bear each other’s burdens
The Prayer team is here to bear each other’s burdens in a concrete way. We believe it is important to support each other in the congregation, and one way to do this is through praying for each others needs.
We are here to serve the congregation in bringing together before God in intercession your requests and prayers. As Jesus instructed us that, “this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” – 1 John 5:14
Serving in the Prayer team can usually looks like this: One person from the team serves per Sunday. When it is your turn, you come a little earlier to the Sunday Service to take part in the prayer for the Sunday Service. When the Sunday Service starts you go after the sermon to the “Prayer Point” which is a sofa in the back where you will be available for people who wants intercession, usually for about 10-15 minutes. We also help with Holy Communion once a month by preparing the Communion table and cleaning up afterwards.

Worship

 Warm fellowship

The worship team leads the congregation music and praise during the weekly services. Praise and singing is a form of biblical worship that can have various expressions, and it is simultaneously personal (each person worships from their own heart) and communal (in that singing involves the entire congregation in a common, harmonious prayer).

We have created a Spotify playlist, to which we regularly add those worship songs which we sing during our worship services, as well as those songs we are passionate about and wish to introduce. You can add the playlist to your own Spotify account here (a valid Spotify account is needed), or you can listen below.

Tech

Mixing and media

The Tech team is responsible for the technical equipment in the church. As Metsku is a very modern congregation in Turku the team has an important part in making the services as easy and pleasant to experience as possible, from the sound in the church to the published recordings of the sermons posted on the web afterwards.

Tasks related to the team are mixing the sound of the Worship team, display the song texts, record the sermon and other small technical duties relating to Metsku’s events. No prior knowledge about mixing or other special computer skills are required to join the team.

Youth

 For the future generation

We are a youth gathering every second Friday for ages 10-14 years old from 7-9 p.m. We want to invest in the youth, to show them how loved they are by God and us. We try to help their personal faith to grow, to show that everyone is important and has a place and role in life and the worship service. We want to develop a trust with them as we point them to Jesus, and encourage them to “follow me as I follow Christ”. In this way God can use us to help direct them on their path and journey together with Jesus.

A typical Metsku Youth evening can look something like this:
We always greet all the kids and welcome them. We kick off the evening with a prayer and an action-packed game. Then we have a game that ties in with the evening’s theme, which can be, for example, hope, love or cooperation etc. Then we eat together, and continue with a teaching from the Bible. We finish with a game and prayer before the parents arrive to pick up the youth.
